I’ve always described myself as a Learner. I LOVE to learn new things. I think that’s why I enjoy being a Salesforce Administrator so much – there is never a shortage of things to learn!
From Administrative functions in the system, to new functionality that comes out with each release, to advanced training, there is always something new to pick up. Add to that the necessity to learn the business processes for your company and translate those into system processes and you’ve got an unlimited supply of education to feed the mind!
Now add an AppExchange package or two. And guess what? You got it! MORE to learn!
5 years ago I’d never have thought I would be involved with Financial reporting like Aging and Trial Balance Reporting, or know anything about Resource Utilization and Revenue Recognition, but now I actually understand what the terms mean and how it all works within our FinancialForce PSA & Accounting Apps. It’s not just about ‘setting them up’ in the system, but understanding how they work and why so I can troubleshoot and train adequately.
The beauty of being a well-rounded Salesforce Administrator is that you can very quickly become the Master of the Universe at your company! Take advantage and soak up what you can – not only will these skills pad your resume with good stuff, but they will also give you a well-rounded view of your Organization (inside and outside of Salesforce) and make you a more successful Salesforce Administrator.
